It is no secret that obesity in America has reached true epidemic levels. All obesity diseases are also at record high levels. People are dying by the millions every year, but still the next year proves to be even more bleak. Let€™s examine some of the facts about obesity in children, obesity in teens, fast food obesity and obesity diseases.
Definition of obesity:
Obesity is defined as the state of having excessive bodily fat accumulation; having an encumbrance of flesh. This is not technically the same as the definition for being overweight although people who are overweight are often obese as well. What is important to know is that both obesity and being overweight are heavily correlated to the development of every known disease. In other words, if you are obese or overweight, your chances to develop a debilitating disease is greatly increased. It is also important to know that obesity and/or being overweight is completely preventable and/or reversible in almost every single case. Very rarely is the cause of obesity or being overweight a function of genetics.
Obesity in children:
Since 1979, hospital costs associated with treating childhood obesity have risen from $35 million to well over $500 million currently. Amongst obese children, more than 25% are already showing one or more signs for developing Type 2 diabetes. Of those, over 60% are also showing one or more of the signs of developing heart disease.
Obesity in teens:
In the past 20 years, there has been a 15% decrease in the number of adults that engage in regular physical activity (100 days or more per year in a given physical activity). Amongst teens, there has been a 41% decrease.
Obesity diseases:
Obesity causes disease to develop. There is no simpler way to put it. Here are some of the diseases and other health issues commonly brought on as a direct result of being obese:
- Diabetes mellitus;
- Diabetes Insipidus;
- Coronary heart disease;
- Myocardial infarctions (heart attacks);
- Liver disease;
- Kidney failure;
- Stroke;
- High cholesterol;
- Arthritis;
- Gout;
- Pancreatitis;
- Various forms of cancer;
- High blood pressure (hypertension);
- Premature ageing;
- Death;
High blood pressure (hypertension);
Fast food and obesity:
Americans eat toxic foods by the tons. Fast food is killing hundreds of thousands of people every day and there is no denying it. No matter how the fast food manufacturers try to conceal it, fast foods are loaded with Trans fats, saturated fats, cholesterol, bleached sugar, bleached flour, sodium, preservatives and steroids just to name a few. Fast food should be completely eliminated from your diet if you desire health and happiness.
Obesity facts speak for themselves. Obesity in America is far out of control. Genetics is not the problem. A mysterious virus is not to blame. Put simply, people need to eat wholesome foods, take the time to cook at home, exercise every day at least a little and stop acting like life is theirs to abuse. The alternatives are all very seriously detrimental.
